The varsity girls tennis team rallied together Tuesday night, May 6, to bring home the semi-final win over Darlington and now advances to the finals of the state tournament. The first point was won by the doubles team of sophomore Megan Smith and junior Amanda Braselerio who exercised great patience with long rallies waiting for the opportunity to put the points away. They won 6-3, 6-3. The next point was secured by junior Rachel Hicks who pounded her ground strokes to a 7-5, 6-4 win. The match was clinched by the undefeated doubles team of senior Caroline Holliday and junior Megan Schwarzkopf who surprised their opponents with an aggressive net game and dominated the match 6-2, 6-2.
The girls will travel on Saturday to Clayton County International Tennis Park for the final match of the state tournament. This team, the most successful girls tennis team in Whitefield history, will face Providence Christian for the state championship title.
