Varsity Girls Tennis Team Wins Tough Match Against Mount Pisgah
The varsity girls tennis team brought home a victory against Mount Pisgah, winning the match 4-1. Leading the girls team was Keri Quillin (9th) at #1 singles who won 6-0, 6-1 with her dominant yet graceful play. Simultaneously, Hannah Morris (9th) #2 singles beat her opponent 6-1, 6-1 with solid ground strokes and aggressive net play. At #3 singles, Sherina Thomas (9th) split sets 6-4, 5-7, but lost a tough third set tie break 10-7. Ansley Guthrie (11th) and Sarah Davis (9th) played #1 doubles and had to fight for the win in the first set tie breaker, 7-6 (7-4), before running away with the second set 6-2. Finally, Olivia Veenendal-Casper (9th) and Alex Kelley (12th) had a similarly close match, winning the first set tie break 7-6 (8-6), and taking the second set 6-2. Junior Varsity Baseball Team Now 3-0
The much anticipated season opener for JV Baseball was played Friday afternoon, March 11, with the Pack defeating the Mount Pisgah Patriots 8-2. The game was close into the sixth inning when Jake Lewis (10th) broke the game open batting with the bases loaded and drove in all three with a long single to right field. Seven batters for the Pack had hits in the game with Jake (three RBI), junior Jimmy McCarthy (one RBI), junior Robert Boyd (one RBI) and sophomore Patrick Rich (one RBI) driving in runs. Jimmy (double) and junior Griffin Combs (triple) had extra base hits.
Mason Jones (11th) pitched four strong innings giving up only one hit and striking out two Patriots. Jimmy pitched 2two innings, and Parker McKinney (9th) finished out the game on the mound in the seventh inning.
The team also played on Saturday, sweeping Our Lady of Mercy in a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon, March 12, beating the Bobcats 9-2 in the first game and 11-1 in the second.
Coleman Miller (10th) was perfect at the plate in game one going 3-3 (double, 2 RBI). Sophomore Patrick Rich (two RBI, triple), junior Jimmy McCarthy (double) and junior Robert Boyd (double) were the other leaders at the plate.
Alex Carver (10th) led the pitching trio including Griffin Combs (11th) and Carter Huffman (10th). Alex pitched three innings holding Mercy scoreless and striking out five. Carter did not give up a run in 2.2 innings and struck out two and Griffin pitched 1.1 innings striking out three.
Game two ended up as a three-inning scrimmage as the umpires were scheduled for only the first game by Mercy. Malcolm Griffin (10th) pitched the first two innings holding Mercy scoreless and striking out four. Jake Lewis (10th) pitched the last inning for the Pack.
The Pack’s bats were timely again with nine RBI on nine hits. Sophomore Russell Bell (two RBI), Griffin Combs, Alex Carver, Coleman Miller (double), Carson Sanders (9th), Parker McKinney (9th), Will Thomas (8th) and Ian Kennedy (8th) also drove in runs for the Pack.
The Pack welcomed call ups Will Thomas, Ian Kennedy, and Lewis Brogan (8th) from the Middle School team for the two games. All three played well and contributed to the wins.
WolfPack Middle School Baseball Shuts Out Greater Atlanta Christian School 18-0
The Middle School baseball team dominated Greater Atlanta Chrstian in a scoring extravaganza this weekend. Ian Kennedy (8th) pitched 4 2/3 innings of no-hit baseball, striking out five. Ian was backed by error free defense for the WolfPack. The WolfPack jumped out to an early 2-0 lead with strong line drives and opportunistic base running. The offense never looked back, thanks in part to strong nights from seventh grader Jake Petersen (3-3); Ian (3-4); and seventh grader Ethan Parker (2-3, two RBI). Several players had multiple RBIs. The top offensive performance of the night came from Marshall Bounds (7th) who provided a bases-loaded double, driving in all three base runners.
