The WolfPack lacrosse team returned home early from spring break to defeat 6-A Parkview High School 15-2 on Friday, March 11, and regional opponent, Mt. Paran Christian, 13-6, on Saturday, March 12.
The Parkview Panthers brought a large team in both numbers and size, and kept the game close in the first quarter, which ended 3-1. The WolfPack netted eight goals in the second period and a total of 12 goals before giving up a late goal in the fourth.
The Panthers only managed four shots on goal the entire game because the WolfPack caused 12 turnovers (CTs) and snagged 30 ground balls (GBs). Connor Callan (11th) pocketed 12 of the GBs, while Thomas Joiner (10th) picked up five. Joseph Schwartz (10th) and Wills McCutcheon (10th) each nabbed two GBs. One GB each was netted by William Charles (12th), Carter Dixon (11th), Jack Fitzgerald (11th), Brenner McCutcheon (11th), Michael McCarthy (10th), Jack Charles (10th), Jordan Howard (9th), and Nathan Messner (9th). Joseph had two CTs, while one each were earned by Jonathan Wood (11th), Mitchell Ryan (11th), Brenner, Connor, and Thomas.
The offensive assault was led by Jonathan with nine points (six goals, three assists) and William with six (five goals, one assist). An additional three points each were delivered by Mitchell (three assists), Jack C. (two goals, one assist), and Thomas (two goals, one assist). Carter added two points (one goal, one assist), while Connor added a long stick goal and Jack F. aided with an assist.
The Saturday morning matchup against the Mt. Paran Eagles’ was a hard-fought battle on the Eagles’ turf, but never close. The WolfPack, still tired from the previous night’s game, took a 5-0 lead at halftime and led 13-3 late in the game before giving up three goals in the final minutes.
The offense was busy again and led by Jonathan with six points (four goals, two assists). Four points each were tallied by Mitchell (three goals, one assist), Jack F. (two goals, two assists), and William (one goal, three assists). Jack C. added three points (two goals, one assist) and Carter netted one goal.
The WolfPack defense clipped the Eagles with 26 GBs and 10 CTs. The defense was led by Joseph (four GBs, seven CTs). Carter (four GBs, one CT) and Connor (three GBs, two CTs) also posted aggressive numbers. Three GBs each were netted by Wills who also had three GBs, while Mitchell and Brenner each snagged two. Jordan Saibu (11th), Jack F., and Jordan H. pulled in one GB each.
