The Middle School swim team finished up their season this past Saturday at the Mustang Middle School Invitational hosted by Kennesaw. The team finished third with many personal best times, every swimmer scoring in all of their events, and great parental support as usual. The holiday weekend kept WolfPack attendance down, but small numbers still resulted in big achievements
Abbie Wickham (7th), Julia Keith (7th), Caroline Kern (6th), and Sophia Megathlin (7th) started the meet in the medley relay coming in third and scoring the first points for Whitefield. This foursome also swam the 200m freestyle relay placing third and scoring more points. In a quick turnaround, Sophia and Abbie swam the 100m freestyle, coming in second and fourth, respectively, and adding big points to the score.
Whitefield’s only boy in this meet was Sebastian Nandkeolyar (6th) who had his best meet of the season. He was spectacular in his 50m freestyle cutting over seven seconds off his time in that race, and then cutting a whopping 10 seconds in his 50m breaststroke. He scored points for the team in both events and returned from a wrist injury stronger than ever.
Julia and Abbie swam the 50m freestyle next, getting best times and adding more points to our ever growing score.
Julia and Caroline swam the 50m backstroke. Caroline cut three seconds off her time and both girls scored. Sophia came in second in the 50m breaststroke. and Caroline placed sixth in the same race and cut over two seconds off her time.
What a great way to end the season! These swimmers exemplified a true team. The swimmers were always pulling for each other and always positive and kind to their teammates and opponents. While there was no diving at this particular meet, Avery Fassnacht (7th) was outstanding for Whitefield all season and placed in the top three at every meet. Congratulations to the entire Middle School swim and dive team, coaches, and parents for an outstanding season.
