Congratulations to Joseph Graham for winning the annual Middle School Spelling Bee held on Thursday morning, January 14. Maddie King took second place; both students will now compete in round one of the GISA Middle School Spelling Bee at Woodward Academy in February.
The 20 Middle School students who participated in the bee were selected from each Middle School English class after completing a written test with 25 spelling words and five vocabulary words. The top five scorers in each class moved on to the school competition.
The bee went 14 rounds, with 10 rounds of spelling and four rounds of vocabulary.
Joseph won the bee on the word “literature.” Rounds three and four saw the most eliminations, and the final two participants went for six more rounds before a winner was determined.
