The Whitefield Middle School cross-country team made a huge dent in the Georgia cross-country landscape on Saturday at the Middle School state championships. Emily Little (8th) claimed victory over other elite competitors in an intense race to become the state champion in the small private school division (A and AA schools from across the state).

Annie Edwards (8th) raced as a viable competitor, placing in the top one-third of the field. Ellie Sutherland (8th) came in third amongst the WolfPack girls, followed closely by first-timer Kylie Weihe (8th) and her sister, Jessie Sutherland (8th).  The five WolfPack eighth-grade girls are planning an attack next week at the varsity regional meet, running as a junior varsity team under the direction of Coach Heiskell and Coach Bacorn.

In the boys state championship race, Komichel Johnson (8th) continued to lead the WolfPack boys with a personal record, finishing in the top 25% percent. He was followed by James Heiskell (7th), Seir Teasley (8th), Jacob Blackburn (7th), and Sebastian Nandkeolyar (6th).  Fifth grader Giovanni D'Alba ran in the junior varsity race, finishing in the top 30%.

Coach Unsicker, is looking forward to building on this incredible base for the cross-country Middle School program, and reported, "the future of cross-country at Whitefield looks bright!"
