Whitefield honored 19 seniors at the annual Senior Scholars Luncheon on Tuesday, April 7, held in the Barnett Gathering Room. The students each earned a 3.9 cumulative GPA or higher during their years in the Upper School, with five students earning a 4.0 GPA: Kristen Fikse, Peter Keith, Whitney Merkle, Matt Snyder, and Megan Schwarzkopf. The group enjoyed a delicious meal accompanied by Dr. Kevin Bracher, headmaster, and Jason Van Bemmel, Upper School principal, who praised their commitment to academic excellence.
At the luncheon, Van Bemmel announced the 2015 Whitefield valedictorian, Megan Schwarzkopf, and the 2015 Whitefield salutatorian, Matt Snyder. Both students have a 4.0 GPA with Megan earning the top spot by .2 of a point in her numerical average.
Megan is captain of the varsity girls tennis team, student council treasurer, secretary of the French National Honor Society, a member of the National Honor Society, a peer tutor, a senior mentor, and a Middle School tennis coach.
Matt is an active member of the Whitefield Dramatic Society, participating in numerous productions,
including the award-winning A Midsummer Night’s Dream. He is also a member of the National Honor Society, the French National Honor Society, and the Thespian Honor Society.
Both Megan and Matt have received numerous academic awards while at Whitefield.
