Each spring, Whitefield Academy celebrates the arts with an Arts Day in each school, Hats Off to the Arts, concerts, musical theater, and other productions. In preparation for the season, we are using our blog to highlight our arts program and the students who love it. Here is a brief word from Lynn Sumlin, vice-president of the Arts Alliance at Whitefield.
Our God is a creative God!
All you have to do is look around as we move into the season of spring to see that God loves beauty in color and sound. The colors of the emerging flowers remind us that God’s mercies are new each day and that from the dark can come something beautiful. God has painted the earth with His colorful palate of jonquils, hyacinths and cherry trees. God’s love for beauty is also observed by the song notes of the birds. I believe that the birds are as excited about spring as we are this year!
Yes, God created our world to be full of beauty and, in us, He placed a desire to create beauty as well. At Whitefield, we encourage and foster the desires of our students to create with many fine arts offerings. We encourage our students to learn and grow in their artistic abilities.
We asked several students to tell us a little about the impact the arts have had on their lives. Please watch the Whitefield blog in the upcoming weeks to read their stories!
Spring kicks off our Season of the Arts at Whitefield Academy. You will find below a listing of the
many events that will take place over the next months that represent all of the fine arts, including visual arts, instrumental and vocal music and theatrical arts.
Please make sure to attend Hats Off to the Arts on Thursday evening, April 9. This event showcases the visual arts from Lower School, Middle School, and Upper School including the AP Art students’ portfolios. While enjoying the galleries you will also enjoy the sounds of music and a light reception throughout the campus.
We also encourage parents to participate in the Whitefield Arts Alliance. The Arts Alliance is comprised of Whitefield parents who come alongside our fine arts teachers to support and bolster the arts at Whitefield Academy. Many of our volunteers are assisting in areas that represent their own interests and not only the areas in which their children are taking classes.
