Over 75 Whitefield alumni from graduating classes as far back as 1999 and as recent as 2014 enjoyed the Sixth Annual Alumni Christmas Party on Friday, December 26 at Maggiano’s Little Italy restaurant in Buckhead. Alumni reminisced about times at Whitefield and shared what they have been doing in recent years with classmates. Some of their favorite teachers and coaches such as Rebecca Brown, Steve Hellier, and Alex Livingston were also in attendance.
The recent establishment of the Whitefield Alumni Board, whose president is Josh Jones (’09), has catapulted the involvement of alumni to a new level. Alumni students are participating with one another on social media through the Facebook Alumni page and LinkedIn Alumni page, and contributing their time and finances to their alma mater. Five Whitefield alumni currently serve as faculty and staff members including Dani Ansley (’08), Lower School art teacher; Megan Beard (’00), third-grade teacher; Carter Fawcett (’06), fifth-grade teacher; Stephanie Moseley (’06), events coordinator; and Dawn Perdue, Lower School teacher assistant. Alumni such as Madison Garrett (‘09), Cameron Baskerville (‘09), McKay Martin (‘07), and Stephen Wright (’05) have also
participated as community coaches and substitute teachers.
Currently, the Alumni Board has secured a $25,000 challenge grant to increase alumni participation to the annual fund with a goal of 100 alumni participating.
“Since Whitefield is a young school, we have less than 700 total alumni with half of us still in college” stated Jones, alumni board president. Josh is now attending college after serving in the Marines following graduation. “To get 100 alumni to make a gift represents almost 35% of all of our alumni who are out of college. We are already have 83, so our board is very encouraged by this show of generosity!”
