The Whitefield Dramatic Society has been invited to perform A Midsummer Night’s Dream at the Georgia Thespian Conference on the weekend of February 5-7. Over 130 troupes from schools across Georgia attend the conference.
“It’s an incredible honor and a notable achievement for our students” said Kayla Marsh, Upper School drama instructor. “Only about 20 groups are invited to perform from a pool of close to 150 schools”
Marsh led Whitefield’s theater team to an award-winning performance of the play this past fall, winning
the GHSA Regional One-Act competition. Sophomore Ruthie Evans also earned the GHSA Best Actress award at regionals for her portrayal of Puck.
During the annual conference, students will participate in workshops led by theatre professionals in all areas of the theatre arts, including many types of dancing, movement, vocal, accents, improvisation, makeup, costuming, stage management, set design and construction, lighting and sound, team building, and theatre games. The Georgia Thespians is a chapter of the Education Theatre Association which sponsors the International Thespian Society. Its mission is to foster culture, community, and growth while kindling a passion for the various aspects of educational theatre and creating new and exciting opportunities for thespians throughout the state.
