Eighteen Middle School students participated in the annual Middle School spelling bee last Thursday morning, January 10. The bee was one of the most competitive in recent Whitefield history, going 17 rounds. Jordyn Williams (7th) placed first and Donovan Pearce (6th) earned the runner-up spot. Jordyn won by correctly spelling ‘caricature.' Her championship was the result of dedicated practice. As she was practicing in the library on Wednesday afternoon before the bee, she misspelled ‘statistician.' Then, out of hundreds of words, she was asked to spell the same word in the actual competition! This example proves that practice makes perfect!
Participating in the bee were Sherina Thomas (6th), Hannah Morris (6th), Ansleigh Brown (6th), Evana Darby (6th), Colson Gulledge (6th), Jackson Williams (7th), Anna Blair (7th), Jordyn Williams (7th), Jared Jones (7th), Grace Blair (7th), Marie Schmitz (7th), Melly Lezcano (8th), Maddie Fry (8th), Ethan Powell (8th), Brittany Crisp (8th), Emma Mixon (8th), and Christina Nicks (8th).
Jordyn and Donovan will both go on to compete in round one of the GISA Middle School Spelling Bee at Woodward Academy on February 7.
