Second grade students reached into their imaginations to create new inventions using simple machines, then shared their inventions with fellow classmates and Lower School teachers at an Invention Convention in Mrs. Bayne's classroom.
"We just finished a simple machines science unit where we learned about work, force, and the six basic machines: wheel and axles, levers, inclined planes, pulleys, wedges, and screws," said Bayne. "We also learned about compound machines, or those having more than one simple machine. The students were required to create a compound machine using at least two simple machines."
Students invented a variety of machings such as a balloon popper, a rook (chess piece) lift, a block
carrier, a candy dispenser, a dolphin washer, a rainbow loom jewelry catcher, a dinosaur egg hatcher, a baseball drop, a girly fashion runway, and a chicken feeder. Over 15 inventions were displayed and students enjoyed presenting their machines and sharing them with classmates.
