The varsity lacrosse team remains undefeated in region play beating Starr’s Mill 9 – 5 last night. Whitefield’s defense continues to surprise opponents with their aggressive play and relentless checking. Returning defensemen Noah DiGiorgio (12th) and Sky Dupree (11th) continue to provide leadership to a young defensive team and Brenner McCutcheon (9th) has quickly adapted to the more aggressive play of Whitefield’s varsity play earning a starting role. Freshman Connor Callan and Carson Brown add to the defensive end, forcing opponents to take lower percentage shots. The shots that did get through still have to get by goalie Ty McLemore (10th) who had 16 saves against a well coached Starr’s Mill team.
On offense, Marcus Jones (11th) and Alex Manning (12th) did a great job on face-offs against one of the top face-off players in Georgia. Marcus had 2 early goals giving Whitefield a lead at the half. Alex and Justin Brendel (12th) formed a mighty senior duo with Justin scoring three goals off of two assists from Alex. Alex also had an unassisted goal. David Ballew (11th), Sid Brendel (9th) and Jonathan Wood (9th) each added a goal. Whitefield’s record is 6-1 overall and 3-0 for the region. The next varsity game is on Monday at Darlington.
