Whitefield eighth-graders took a five-day field trip to Washington D.C. last week, exploring national monuments and museums, and learning about the nation’s history.

Students visited the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial, the Lincoln Memorial, the Jefferson Memorial, the World War II Memorial, the Vietnam Memorial, the Korean Memorial, and Arlington National Cemetery.

“A highlight of the trip was the boat cruise we took on the Potomac,” said Michael Bailey, Middle School humanities teacher. “We had a great chance to connect as a class while we boated down the river.” .Bailey chaperoned the trip along with Alyson Powell, Middle School history teacher and several parents.

The group also visited several other spots, including the Capitol, the Smithsonian Museum, and the International Spy Museum, where students had

to come up with an alternate identity and had to try their best to keep their cover as they toured the museum.

“This trip was by far the most memorable part of my year at Whitefield,” said Bailey. “This class bonded so much and came away with memories that will last them for the rest of their lives.  I love the class of 2018!”
