The varsity volleyball team traveled to Campbell High School on Thursday for a tri-match against Campbell and Osborne High School.
In the first match, Whitefield dismantled Campbell in straight sets (25-13, 25-18). In the first set Whitefield steadily pulled away with solid fundamental play which the Lady Spartans were never able to challenge. Anna Moore (12th) sealed the set with an ace on set point to take the set 25-13. In set two, Whitefield built a ten-point lead at 20-10. Campbell made a brief run to close the gap to 21-17. The Pack pulled away from there to win the set and the match, 25-18.
Sunni Dupree (9th) led the offense with five monster kills, followed by Audrey Garret (10th) with four and Gracie Babcock (12th) with two. Anna Moore (12th), fourth in Class A statewide in assists, added 11 assists. At the service line, Anna Moore had four aces. Morgan Landers (12th) and Sunni added two aces each.
On defense, Sunni had two blocks, followed by one block each from Kelsey Butler (10th) and Anna Long (11th), who leads Class A statewide in blocks. The back line defense was led by Morgan with nine digs. Gracie had four digs, followed by Kate MacPhail (10th) with two digs, and Anna Moore and Sunni with one dig each.
The WolfPack then faced Osborne High School in the nightcap. The Lady Cardinals had no answer for a relentless service attack by the WolfPack, and Whitefield won the match in straight sets (25-9, 25-9). In set one, Whitefield led 3-2 when Kelsey Butler (10th) came to the service line. Kelsey raked the Lady Cardinals for 14 straight points including seven aces, leading the Pack to a 25-9 win. In the second set, Whitefield added six more service aces and won the set and the match, equaling the score from the first set, 25-9.
On offense, Sunni added nine more kills, giving her 14 for the night. Gracie got hot late in the match and added three kills to her team-leading total. Audrey had three kills and Anna Long had two. Anna Moore piled up 12 more assists. The service game was key with Kelsey scoring eight aces, followed by Morgan with four, Anna Moore with three, and Rayna Mock (9th) with one ace. On defense, Morgan Landers had the lone dig, as the Osborne attack never materialized.
The road trip continues on Tuesday, September 18, when the WolfPack travels to Rome to face area rival Darlington in a big area matchup. Go Pack!!
