Whitefield Visual Arts Department teachers are devoted to professional development for the benefit of their students. Recently, Natalia Hicks, Debbie Childree, and Rebecca Brown attended the National Art Education Association Conference in Boston. More than 5,000 visual art teachers from all across the country attended the conference, which included  hands-on workshops, discussion panels, information on new art products, and presenters who provided everyone with amazing ideas to share with their students. Some of the keynote speakers were Howard Gardner and Amy Sherald. Gardner is well known for his research and books on education. Sherald was commissioned to paint the portrait of First Lady Michelle Obama. Whitefield visual art teachers were also able to visit several Boston museums including the acclaimed Museum of Fine Arts.
