Two members of the Whitefield Academy swim and dive team were selected for all-county teams. Varsity diver Avery Fassnacht, 10th-grade, was recently named to the First Team All-County and swimmer Emilie Grand'Pierre, 12th-grade, has been named to the Second Team All-County.

Both finished the season strong at the County and State Championship meets.

Avery placed 4th in diving at County and 7th at the State meet. She also received All-State Honorable Mention as well.

Swim and dive head coach Christy Cella praised Avery and her commitment to her team.

“She always showed up to the pool ready to compete and we could always count on her to score points for the team,” said Coach Cella.

Like her teammate, Emilie also received All-State Honorable Mention for her performance in the water. This season, she set school records in the 200 and 500 Free, 100 Fly and 100 Breast. At the County meet, Emilie placed 9th in the 200 IM and 4th in the 100 Breast, and at State she placed 13th in the 100 Fly and 6th in the 100 Breast.

“Emilie is a great leader for our team both in and out of the pool,” said Coach Cella.  “She is always positive and a very hard worker.”

On March 24, Emilie was recognized at the Cobb County Swim and Dive Banquet for being named to the Second Team All-County and receiving one of four scholarships for seniors from the Cobb County Swim Coaches Association. The senior swimmer plans to swim at Bowdoin College next year.

The 400 Free Relay team, that included Amanda King (ninth), Sarah Figaretti (ninth), Isabel deAntonio (11th) and Emilie Grand’Pierre (12th), finished 11th at County and 8th at State. The team also set a new school record at State and was honored with Honorable Mention All-State.

“The 400 Free Relay team did an amazing job this season,” said Coach Cella.  “All 4 girls worked hard and swam their best times of the season at the State meet to break the current school record by almost 4.5 seconds.”

Congratulations to our varsity swim and dive team on a great season!
