The Middle School cross-country team traveled to Perimeter Christian School for their second meet of the season recently.
Although many of the team members are new to the sport of cross-country, the team has been training and learning many techniques to build the endurance necessary for distance running. Marie Schmitz (7th) and Jake Fitzgerald (8th) both placed in the top 20 of their respective races. Marie placed 18th among over 100 other girls; Jake placed 13th in the boys' competition, which included over 150 runners.
The two-mile course at Perimeter was treacherous due to periods of rain throughout the day as well as many uphill climbs and even a set of stairs to climb within the course which snaked through the campus.
ChaCha Hamilton (6th) also conquered the challenging course for the girls team. Jimmy McCarthy (8th) came in only twelve seconds behind Jack, placing 17th overall. The boys team finished strong and received fourth place for their efforts on a very humid afternoon.
The Middle School cross-country team consists of eighth graders Jack Fitzgerald, Sam Fuller, Jimmy McCarthy, and Rubin Thomas; seventh graders Hunter Bilotti, Matthew Cofield, Joshua Orr, Henry Sanchez, Marie Schmitz, Patrick Spellissy, and Jackson Williams; and sixth graders Caleb Corliss, Alex Eaton, Crawford Folk, Colson Gulledge, ChaCha Hamilton, Jordan Howard, Alex McKoy, Sean Morris, Luke Petersen, and Jake Rivers. The team is coached by Upper School science teacher Ann Schmitz.
