On a rain-soaked field, Whitefield’s varsity softball team opened up the 2012 region schedule with a 7 -2 win over Mount Paran Christian School.
The offensive attack was led by Gabby Pinson (10th), Hannah Brown (10th), and Jordan Jones (12th), each having two hits. As pitcher, Hannah struck out 10 players and pushed Whitefield past Mount Paran. She allowed no earned runs on four hits and three walks over seven innings.
In the top of the third, Mount Paran grabbed the early lead, 1-0. An attempted steal of second base scored Gabby to get Whitefield on the board in the inning. The Pack went up for good in the third inning, scoring four runs on an error and two singles.
The WolfPack defense continues to improve. Annie Sickling (11th) made a great over the shoulder grab at first base in the fourth inning; catcher Gabby made an outstanding diving play against the backstop in the third inning. In addition, freshman centerfielder Megan Rose Byers made a run-saving shoestring catch in the fifth inning to stop a Mount Paran threat.
