A record-setting performance by sophomore pitcher Hannah Brown led Whitefield Academy to a 5-1 win in eight innings over Landmark Christian yesterday. Hannah struck out 18 batters, pitched eight innings, and allowed no earned runs on one hit. She faced her toughest situation in the sixth inning, but ended the Landmark rally with two strikeouts.
Whitefield jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the third. The Pack attack began with a single from freshman Megan Rose Byers. A stolen base then moved Megan from first to second base. She ran to third on a fielder’s choice, and then scored on a Landmark error. In the sixth inning, the lone run of the game for Landmark crossed the plate on an error.
With the score tied in extra innings, Alexis Allen (12th) delivered the game-winning hit in the eighth inning. Jennie Chambliss (12th) singled to start the eighth. She then ran from first base to second base on a single by Annie Sickling (11th). Alexis came to the plate with the score tied, singled, and brought home Jennie and Annie. Alexis racked up two RBIs on one hit for the Pack.
Megan Rose, Annie, and Jennie each had two hits for Whitefield. However, the big hit was the one delivered by Alexis in the final inning of play!
