Whitefield parents and administrators met in the Barnett Gathering Room on Friday, August 17, to dedicate the 2012-2013 academic year to God at the first prayer breakfast of the year.
After a light breakfast, Headmaster John Lindsell opened the morning by addressing the parents and expressing thanks for God’s continued provision at Whitefield.
Attendees formed small prayer groups and prayed for Whitefield. Parent groups prayed for wisdom for the school’s leadership, a heart of service in its faculty and staff members, a love of learning in its students, and many other specific needs which were compiled by the principals and athletic director.
Dr. Trudy Simmons, coordinator of Whitefield’s Parent Prayer Group, closed the service by inviting parents to attend a time of prayer every Friday morning from 8:15 – 9:15 a.m. in the Flora Marbut Conference Room.
“Our prayer group is such a great way to connect with other moms and dads within our Whitefield family,” Simmons said. “It is a blessing and joy to be able to pray with other like-minded parents for our school, children, and community.”
“I am blessed and honored to attend a school where we have the freedom to pray openly,” she continued. “We watch answered prayers unfold. I truly believe that prayer is one of the most important gifts given to us by God.“
In addition to the prayer group which meets on campus, Whitefield has a college moms’ prayer group which meets bi-monthly in homes. The moms' group, hosted by alumni mom Sharon McClellan, prays regularly for their college-age and young adult children. For more information, email Sharon McClellan.
“What a blessing we have had together as we pray—seeing God do such amazing things in the lives of our kids,” said McClellan, who has three Whitefield students: Ward (‘06), Katherine (’08), and Mary Claire (12th).
Following the prayer breakfast, many parents joined Whitefield students and faculty at the All School Chapel in the Lower School Student Activity Center.
