As Whitefield enters the spring athletic season, two newly-appointed coaches will lead the WolfPack in preseason football preparations and boys varsity baseball.

Longtime Whitefield Coach John Hunter served in dual roles last year as both head lacrosse coach and interim head football coach. Athletic Director Danny Ryan made that arrangement permanent last week when he assigned Hunter the varsity football coaching job for 2017 and beyond, signifying that the momentum built over this past year is just getting started. A favorite mentor of many Whitefield athletes over the years, Hunter will continue to head the WolfPack varsity boys lacrosse team as they seek their fifth Gannon Cup Championship in 2017. He will also lead the growing varsity football team into spring football preparations. Hunter has been a fixture on the Whitefield athletic staff for many years, serving in various coaching and teaching positions. He holds a bachelor's degree from Colorado College and a master's degree from the University of Northern Colorado.

The WolfPack also welcomes Jason Godbee as its new varsity baseball coach. Godbee comes to Whitefield from Landmark Christian School, where he taught in the classroom and coached varsity baseball and junior varsity football, taking teams to regional and state competition six times since 2011. His baseball coaching experience spans the past 12 years and four high schools, where he served as varsity assistant or head coach, and led multiple teams to both region and state championships in Florida, Arkansas and Georgia. Eleven of his former players went on to play NCAA college baseball, and two have been drafted by Major League Baseball teams. Godbee holds a Bachelor of Science in communications with a minor in education and history from the University of North Florida.

“I am thrilled to work with each of these fine men who will lead our young athletes in football, lacrosse and baseball,” said Athletic Director Danny Ryan. “They each bring great depth of experience and skilled coaching to the job, yet demonstrate the strong personal values sought by Whitefield in our coaches and true hearts for teaching young men.”
