Whitefield second graders left the comforts of their own beds recently to spend a night of learning at Zoo Atlanta. Arriving at the zoo in the late afternoon, students enjoyed a nocturnal adventure packed with themed activities and behind-the-scenes experiences through a program called Night Crawlers. The students had up-close encounters with animals; explored the new Scaly, Slimy Spectacular reptile house; and learned how food is prepared at the animal nutrition kitchen (ANK). Next, they settled down for a "camp out" in a large classroom. The next morning, expert guides led students around the zoo again, and continued to teach them about various animal groups and their habitats.
"This trip is a great culmination of our second-grade science unit on biomes. Students are able to see first-hand what an amazing Creator we have! He is a Creator who provides everything each animal needs, just as He provides for us," said Julie Bayne, second-grader teacher.
