Hollywood could not have scripted a better ending to the varsity baseball team’s battle against rival St. Francis as senior Luke Miltner drove in the winning run on senior night in the bottom of the 12th to win the game, 6-5. Luke’s hard line drive to right center drove in Carter Huffman (10th) who led off the inning with a long double to right field. The game was hard fought on both sides and another total team win for the Pack.
Each player gave their all in this game: John Schwartz (12th) had a stellar defense in centerfield, running down balls that no one else on the team could come close to catching. Mason Jones (11th) was the rock behind the plate for all 12 innings and had two hits. Robert Boyd (11th) made a spectacular over the shoulder run saving catch in right field in the 10th inning. Carter (10th) scored the winning run after a two-out double in the 12th. Luke had the game winning
hit on his last game playing at home. Jimmy McCarthy (11th) batted 3-5 with two RBI. Jacob Pitts (10th) had a strong pitching performance into the sixth inning striking out five Knight batters and batting 2-4 with a double and an RBI. Will Brogan (12th) earned two hits and was the winning pitcher going the last three innings for the win. Griffin Combs (11th) pitched an inning and 2/3 and only gave up only one run entering the game with the bases loaded in the sixth. Alex Carver (10th) pitched two scoreless innings in the eighth and ninth. Coleman Miller (10th) had a huge two-out pinch hit RBI single in the 11th inning with the Pack down one run to extend the game. Luke Persons (10th) had great infield play at shortstop and second base.
The game was one that will be remembered by the team, coaches, and fans, but especially for the seniors going out in style. The varsity team plays next on Thursday, April 14, at Fellowship Christian.
