Whitefield’s Season of the Arts continued with the annual Hats Off to the Arts celebration on Thursday, April 7.  Galleries of student art were opened across campus, displaying the visual art pieces of PreK4 students to seniors.   Delicious refreshments were also served in the LSSAC and Morris Hall.

The evening was alive with creativity with musical ensembles entertaining guests across campus as they strolled from venue to venue, chatting with one another and looking through the art galleries. The Lower School chorale and strings students played in the LSSAC; band ensembles played on the quad; a string quartet entertained in Founders Hall, and a string duet played in Morris Hall. The Whitefield student band, Leonidas and the Smyrna Band, also played popular melodies in The Grand Amphitheater.

Middle School and Upper School visual art pieces were judged by professional graphic designer, Teri Shilling, who awarded first, second, third, and honorable mention ribbons in several categories. Teri is a long-time supporter of the arts at Whitefield, and also the mother of Whitefield graduates Amanda and Bennett. In addition, AP art students Jessica Burnett, Ansley Guthrie, Samara Huggins, and Katherine Martin judged fifth-grade artwork. Students in grades 5-12 also selected the “Student Choice” award, voting for their favorite pieces in the show.

Representing Whitefield’s dramatic arts were the cast members of The Lion King, the upcoming Middle School musical, who gave a sneak peak of the show in the Louise Owens Theater.
