Senior Kerry Martin of the varsity boys soccer team received the first annual Weimer Award at the end-of-the-season soccer banquet on Tuesday, May 10. The Weimer Award is a character award given in loving memory of alumnus Justin Weimer (‘11).
The award will be presented each year to the player who most exemplifies the type of soccer player that Justin was. It reads, “In Recognition of talent, hard work, humility, love for teammates, and a deep desire to follow Christ.” Romans 8:28 is also engraved on the award, “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose."
"Kerry Martin is certainly most deserving of the inaugural Justin Weimer Award in the sense that we watched Kerry mature from a very skilled player his sophomore and junior years to a skilled and selfless leader his senior year," said Jamie Heiskell, varsity boys soccer coach. "Kerry played 9 out of 11 positions on the pitch this season and co-captained a varsity boys soccer team to history in qualifying for the second round of the GHSA playoffs. He will be greatly missed as a player, and his legacy as a leader carries forward."
