Seventh and eighth-grade students enjoyed the annual Middle School dance, while fifth and sixth grade students enjoyed Game Night on Saturday, March 19. Both events were great opportunities for fun and friendship, bringing students closer together as a unified community.
The theme of the Middle School dance was Hollywood, with students enjoying a pre-dance picture party in the Grand Amphitheater. The seventh and eighth-grade girls were beautiful in their colorful dresses, and the boys were handsome, wearing dress pants and polo shirts. After the picture party, the students walked the red carpet to the Barnett Gathering Room, where disc jockey William Moore spun popular tunes while students danced. The Barnett Gathering Room was alive with flashing lights and Hollywood posters in keeping with the theme. The dance music (and dancing) extended out onto to the Whitmire Pavilion, which was decorated with twinkling lights.
“The disc jockey was great! The kids made lots of requests and he made sure kids felt comfortable on
the dance floor. He would call out to switch partners every few minutes so that the whole group was dancing with one another,” said Paige Overstreet, who coordinated the dance with Veronica Golden. Another mom, Cheri Dourron, took portraits of students with their friends.
While their older peers danced in their finest attire, fifth and sixth-grade students dressed in their most comfortable sportswear to participate in Game Night, which included dodge ball, capture the flag, badminton, corn hole, and soccer.
“There were well over 100 kids there, and they had a blast,” said Whitefield parent Jennifer Martin, who coordinated the WPA event, along with parent Melanie King. “Game night is such great way for kids to have stress-free fun. Schoolwork can be demanding and this is a great way for everyone to come together and just relax!”
