On a sunny and cool evening on Wednesday, the WolfPack lacrosse team faced off against the 6-A McEachern Indians. While the Indians were big, fast, and aggressive, the skill and team play of the WolfPack quickly overwhelmed McEachern. Whitefield led 11-0 at halftime, and eased back in the second half before the final whistle was blown with Whitefield winning 16-1.
Offense was led by Jonathan Wood (11th) with six goals and one assist, Mitchell Ryan (11th) with three goals and three assists, and William Charles (12th) with three goals and one assist. Adding to the offense with one goal each were Ty McLemore (12th), Thomas Joiner (10th), Joseph Schwartz (10th), and Michael McCarthy (10th). The defense put a blanket on the Indian attack with 12 caused turnovers (CT) for the team. It was led by Carson Brown (11th) with three CT, Carter Dixon (11th) with two CT, Connor Callan (11th) with two CT, Joseph with two CT, and Brenner McCutcheon (11th), Jonathan, Thomas, Michael, and Robert Matherne (9th) with one CT each. Wills McCutcheon (10th) was able to quietly enjoy the sunshine, but important when called upon that he had five saves for an 83% save rate.
The team had excellent fielding with 23 ground balls (GB). The GB count was led by five GB for Connor; three GB each for Brenner, Joseph, and Jack Charles (10th); two GB for Jonathan, and one GB each for William, Jordan Saibu (11th), Wills, Thomas, and Camden Evans (9th).
Lacrosse is taking a slight break for the spring holiday, but the boys will return home early to face Rockhurst Jesuit (Kansas City) on Friday, March 11 at 6 p.m., and then go to Mt. Paran on Saturday, March 12, for a 1 p.m. contest. If you are in town, come cheer on the WolfPack!
