The varsity swim team excelled at the Metro Meet, a swim meets hosted each year by Westminster. The Metro Meet is one of the largest meets in the state, attended by 36 schools, ranging from 1A-6A.  Swimmers from across metro-Atlanta participate in the meet in hopes of getting state meet cuts. The competition is fierce, much like the state meet.  Sophomore Brooks Merkle, the only boy on the WolfPack team, placed first in the 100m breaststroke with a time of 1:00.29. He started off well and continued to stay ahead with each turn, never letting go of the lead and dropping 1.4 off his best high school meet time! Brooks also placed sixth in the boys individual medley with a 2:06.05.  Emilie Grand’Pierre (9th) placed an impressive fifth in the 100m breaststroke with a 1:12.47; she was the only freshman in the meet in the top five for that race. Emilie also placed 10th among a sea of competitors in the girls individual medley, dropping her time with a 2:21.50.  Audree Grand’Pierre (11th) and Kaitlyn Stewart (10th) swam the 50m freestyle, a race in which it is very difficult to obtain a state cut. Audree had an amazing swim and dropped 1/2 a second to place eighth with a 26.08.  Kaitlyn crushed her best time and took almost eight seconds off with a 31.75.  Amped up from their previous races, Audree and Kaitlyn next raced in the 100m freestyle.  Audree placed 14th overall and Kaitlyn once again scorched her best time, burning off 7.5 seconds for a 1:14.11.  Three Whitefield swimmers will compete in the upcoming state meet.  Well done, Pack!
