Lower School students recently enjoyed a visit from Mike Curato, award-winning children’s author and illustrator. Curato is well-loved for his books about Little Elliot, a polka-dotted elephant who encounters adventure after adventure. Little Elliot, Big City, was released in 2014 to critical acclaim and is now being translated into 10 languages. Curato read his latest book, Little Elliot, Big Family to each of the Lower School classes, and then drew pictures with the students. He also showed slides explaining how he illustrated his books, and encouraged children to use their imaginations to create their own stories.
In addition to drawing characters for his own books, Curato illustrates books for other authors. His most recent project was illustrating Worm Loves Worm by J.J. Austrian. Curato lives and works in Brooklyn, NY.
