The Whitefield Academy Middle School cross-country teams continue to excel and improve. In recent meets at Westminster and Wesleyan, runners have continued to earn personal records and place well in the overall rankings.
Both the boys and girls teams took third place at the recent Westminster School Middle School cross-country meet. All of the Whitefield girls finished in the top 40 out of a field of 97 runners. Eight grader Emily Little took second place and classmate Annie Edward finished 29th out of 97 runners. Eighth graders Jessie Sutherland and Ellie Sutherland finished 31st and 32nd, respectively. Fifth graders Emma Martin and Natalie Clark finished 35th and 36th out of 97 girl runners.
Whitefield had five top 40 finishes from the boys team, competing against 111 other runners. Komichel Johnson (8th) took 11th place, followed by Seir Teasley (8th) at 12th place, Jacob Blackburn (7th) at 19th, James Heiskell (7th) at 35th and Sebastian Nandkeolyar (6th) at 37th.
The team continued with strong progress at the Wesleyan School cross-country meet on Wednesday, September 30. Twelve area schools participated in the meet which was marked by continued personal records by the Whitefield boys and girls.
Whitefield, represented by Emily, won the girls’ race. Each eight-grade girl (Ellie, Jessie, Annie, and Emily) set PRs on the Wesleyan course. James, Blaise Richburg (6th), John Robert Bracher (6th), Howard Allen (6th), and Truman Johnson (5th) also set new PRs, lowering their times on a tough course
" I am so proud of their efforts--they have so well and have improved so much--I am so very proud," said Coach Timothy Unsicker.
