Whitefield’s PACK Parenting program sponsored Evenings of Fellowship this past week, uniting Whitefield parents with one another for a night of dining and sharing. Eighteen families hosted dinners in their homes over a seven-night period; fifteen of the hosting families were alumni families.
“One of the main goals of PACK Parenting is to find ways to build fellowship across the campus,” said Becky Matherne, who co-chairs PACK Parenting with Kara Peterson. “We wanted to help build connections and bring current families as well as alumni families together by breaking bread and sharing stories.”
“We loved the idea of bringing back alumni families to tell their stories and share memories of the early Whitefield days,” said Peterson, who helped coordinate the dinners.
Families gathered in small groups of eight to twelve in order to keep the atmosphere more personal and intimate. Everyone who signed up brought part of the dinner to keep hosting easy and expectations light. Families reflected on the faithfulness of God at Whitefield over the years and shared memories of their children’s involvement in the arts, athletics, or other extracurricular activities. The evenings were designed to be simple, and ‘come as you are.’ There was no agenda, just fellowship. There were connections made at each dinner and the insight shared by all was invaluable.
