Day 1 of the Georgia Area 6B Private School Region Track Meet was held yesterday, with Whitefield playing host to Fellowship Christian, Kings Ridge Christian, Mt. Paran Christian, Mt. Pisgah Christian, North Cobb Christian, Southwest Atlanta Christian, St. Francis, and Walker.
In the field events, the WolfPack boys and girls advanced several athletes to the sectional meet to be held at Landmark Christian on Saturday, May 2. Sectional qualifiers for the boys included sophomore Carson Brown (winner in the discus and fourth in the shot put), senior Norman Harris and junior Jordan Greer (second and third in the high jump), sophomore Isaiah Hart and Norman (second and third in the triple jump), and senior Brandon Morris (fourth in the long jump).
In the running events, senior Robby Keough and freshman Brooks Merkle led off the day by qualifying directly for the state final in the 1600m run, finishing first and fourth, respectively. The boys state final for the 1600 will take place on Day 1 of the state meet in Jefferson, Georgia on Thursday, May 14. Other boys and girls running events throughout the afternoon were conducted as prelims for today’s regionals finals to be held at Mt. Pisgah. Highlights from the prelims featured new school records in the boys 100m dash by Brandon and in the boys 4x100m relay. Runners in today’s regional finals will be competing to advance to the sectional meet.
