Whitefield alumni are making a difference as they graduate and adhere to the Whitefield Mission Statement to have “a passion for learning, for others ahead of self, and for the living an active Jesus. Austin Joseph ('14) Wins National Debate Championship
Congratulations to Whitefield alumnus Austin Joseph who excelled at the Phi Kappa Delta Debate Championship, winning the National Championship for Novice Parliamentary Debate. Joseph’s team debated about ISIS interventionism and the correct steps world leaders should take to minimize threats.
Joseph, who graduated from Whitefield in 2014, received a full academic scholarship to Morehouse College where he is majoring in English and minoring in political science. He is in Morehouse’s Freshman Honors Program. Last summer, he served as an intern with the Student Global Ambassador Project, which engages and empowers 7th – 12th graders.to become global leaders. Joseph participated as a leader with SGAP at a week-long “Design Science Lab” at Chestnut Hill College, PA, He collaborated with five international team members on a “Global Solution” presentation which was given at the United Nations headquarters. Joseph was also elected to the Morehouse Student Government Association, serving as the freshman senator.

Sam Shuler ('10) Named Soldier Of The Year
Congratulations to alumnus Sgt. Sam Shuler (’10) who is serving our country, and was recently named Georgia’s soldier of the year. Shuler is a sergeant based in Polk County
with the Apache Troop of the 108th Cavalry as part of the Georgia National Guard’s 48th brigade combat team. He will be representing the state in the U.S. Virgin Islands in an upcoming regional competition for Soldier of the Year, with a chance at the National level following. Tekele Cotton ('11) Surprises Young Shockers Fan For Birthday
Tekele Cotton (’11) made his mark as a top basketball player for Wichita State University, leading the team to multiple wins and a trip to the Final Four in. Yet, despite his popularity in Wichita, he remembers the excitement of being a little boy and in love with the game. Recently, he ran into a woman while grocery shopping and ended up surprising her son, a Wichita fan, with a visit to his birthday party. Watch the video here.
