Camaraderie and Mentorship

by Ethan Powell

My experience in the fine arts program at Whitefield has been phenomenal in every

aspect. Admittedly, I am a bit introverted, so band has created some new opportunities for

friendship that have blossomed into unbelievable relationships with my fellow brothers and

sisters in Christ. Some people dread fulfilling responsibilities and commitments, but I readily

and excitedly await every moment of band.

A key highlight in marching band is the senior leadership. Our exceptional show in the

2014 season was largely the result of Brandon Morris, the senior drum major. The seniors

genuinely care about our performances and improvement, constantly forwarding our

development with every practice. Although they are not overly strict, everyone realizes when it is

time to work and when it is time to socialize. This ideal balance leads to a very enjoyable and

successful season.

Jazz band is undoubtedly the highlight of my school day. It provides me with an hour

long session where I can engage in music that I love with my friends. With such a small group,

we all bond quickly. So as I improve musically, I grow closer with my friends, and that is what I

enjoy most.
