Forty members of the Whitefield National Honor Society participated in a service project with the Veterans
Empowerment Organization, serving a meal to the veterans who live at the facility. Volunteers throughout the Whitefield community provided the meal, which included baked ziti, chicken pot pie, various salads, bread and dessert. In addition to serving the meal, the students toured the facility which houses 100 veterans. The organization helps take homeless veterans off the streets and place them into a safety net of support that provides immediate and long-term housing, treatment and recovery for addiction, healthy meals, basic necessities, and clothing, as well as medical care, mental health counseling, life-skills training and workforce development support.
Since 2008, VEO has served more than two thousand homeless veterans in Georgia.
