A contingent of Whitefield boys returned to Marietta High School on Monday evening, March 30, for the completion of the Cobb County track and field championships. When all was said and done, the boys team finished in a tie for seventh place in the overall team competition, with 30 points.
Following his win in the 1600m run on Saturday, senior Robby Keough won the 800m run at finals on Monday evening. Robby set a new PR time of 1:52.27, which is now the best time in Georgia so far in the 2015 outdoor season. Robby's successes earned him the MDJ Athlete of the Week award.
Monday evening’s competition also featured an eighth place finish in the 400m dash (and a valuable team point) by sophomore Brian Pickens, and solid performances in the 3200m run by freshmen Brooks Merkle (10:54) and Nicholas Harris (11:12). Whitefield also fielded two boys 4x400m relay teams that competed well and just missed scoring points against the strong Cobb County field.
