The Whitefield fine arts program offers classes in visual arts, dramatic arts, and musical arts, seeking to expose students to a wide variety of artistic expression and help them discover their own unique God-given talents. After school, students can participate in art classes through the After School program in the Lower School, or art clubs in the Middle School and Upper School. Students who participate in our fine arts program will be sharing what they enjoy on this blog during the Season of the Arts.
From Lower School student Annie Watson:
My name is Annie Watson and I am in the third grade. I love being a part of the Whitefield arts program. This year I am learning to play the recorder in music class. Mr. Henson is our music teacher and he has taught us to read music and to play notes on the recorder. I have learned to play four songs and I earned a colored belt for each one.
I also love art class. Mrs. Hicks has taught us about many famous artists. We have learned to draw cartoons and to sketch faces of people. We also made clay sculptures of people in motion. In art club we learned to make paper mache and clay sculptures of animals.
I am very proud of what I have learned and I am looking forward to learning so much more.
From a Middle School student Lexi Kantor:
The Art program at Whitefield has been a huge blessing to me through my Lower School and Middle School
years. Mrs. Hicks and Mrs. Childree have always encouraged me to try new techniques and to think outside the box in art class. I am so thankful for the time they give the students with after school art clubs and early morning project planning. They always give so much of their time and have such joyful hearts! I have a love for art because it allows me to use my imagination and I am able to express myself.
Last year, I stepped out of my comfort zone when I joined orchestra and started playing the violin. At first it seemed impossible, but with Mrs. Baldwin’s love and encouragement, I developed a passion for playing. There were many days Mrs. Baldwin stayed after school or offered to meet me in the summer to practice and learn new songs. I am grateful for the wonderful art programs Whitefield offers and the amazing teachers here.
