Watercolor artist Jack Shields visited Whitefield Academy art students last week, sharing his journey as an artist and demonstrating painting techniques. A painter since 1962, Shields has studied with such well-known watercolor artists as Rex Brandt, Robert Wood, George Post, Gerald Brommer, Don Andrews, and Tom Nicholas. Shields retired in 1995 after serving as an art teacher for nearly 40 years. Today he paints and conducts workshops full time.
Shields has taught in Georgia, Missouri, Florida, California,
Nevada, and Honolulu. Among numerous commissions he has received are the guest room watercolors in the Atlanta JW Marriott Hotel Lenox and illustrations for the Atlanta Junior League Cookbook. His paintings hang in private homes and businesses throughout America and abroad.
