Varsity Girls Softball Team Opens Season With Two Wins

The varsity girls softball team opened the season with a 16 - 0 win over cross-town 5A rival Campbell High School in a non-region contest. Janie Hampel led the Whitefield attack hitting 4-for-5 with a home run, a double and 6 runs batted in; Jordan Jones was 3-for-3 with a double and 2 RBI's; Shelby Davidson was 3-for-5 with a double and 2 RBI's. Hannah Perkins and Grace Miller each added a base hit and freshman catcher Gabby Pinson had a single and 2 RBI's. Pitcher Hannah Perkins scattered 4 hits and struck out 8 Campbell hitters preserving the shutout.

Regional play began Tuesday, August 22, with an exciting 5 - 1 win over long time nemesis Landmark Christian. Tied at 1 after 7 innings of regulation play, freshman Hannah Brown doubled to drive in Janie Hampel to open the top of the 8th in the international tie breaker inning. A bunt single by Morgan Witmer, an RBI by freshman Gabby Pinson, and a 2 RBI single by freshman Sydney Burke completed the extra inning scoring. Jordan Jones, Hampel, Witmer and Perkins each collected 2 hits apiece. Hannah Perkins pitched a complete game 3 hitter, striking out 7 Landmark batters in an exceptionally pitched game.

The Pack will continue region play hosting Strong Rock next Tuesday for their first home game of the season. Come and support these girls. Go Pack!!
