On Friday, February 8, Whitefield Academy held its annual Sweetheart Ball for all Lower School girls and their fathers or special guests. The Lower School Student Activity Center was transformed into the night's theme of a "Winter Wonderland" with hundreds of blue, white, and silver snowflakes and balloons. The stage was adorned with giant glittered snowflakes and beautifully decorated towers.
This year, approximately 200 girls and their escorts put on their party dresses and suits to enjoy dancing and music from disc jockey Rich Moran of Complete Music of Marietta. Songs included upbeat dances and current hits as well as oldies such as "My Girl" and "Shout.” The girls also grabbed their dates for several slow dances to sentimental favorites like "Cinderella" by Steven Curtis Chapman and "My Little Girl" by Tim McGraw. Because no Lower School dance would be complete without the Cha Cha Slide and the Limbo, the DJ also had a couple of dance competitions for the girls and their dads with small prizes going to the winners.
In addition to dancing, everyone enjoyed the dessert buffet complete with lots of scrumptious cupcakes and cookies as well as a chocolate fondue fountain. Each year an array of foods such as strawberries, bananas, pretzel rods, graham crackers, marshmallows, and potato chips is available for dipping in the chocolate fountain. Punch, water, and coffee were also served. All food and drinks were donated by Whitefield's amazing Lower School parents.
Another highlight of this magical night was the picture slide show which featured pictures of girls and their fathers. Towards the end of the dance, this year's fourth-grade class was invited to the dance floor for a special slow dance with their date to celebrate their last Sweetheart Ball before moving to Middle School next year. Upon leaving, all girls were given a favor bag containing a snowflake cookie cutter and sugar cookie recipe card as a thank you for attending this year's Winter Wonderland Sweetheart Ball.
