On Thursday, April 26, Whitefield honored the 50 members of the Class of 2014 at an awards ceremony, recognizing their high levels of excellence in academics, service, and leadership. Congratulations to the following students, and the entire senior class, for their noteworthy contributions to Whitefield Academy and their community.







Department Awards

The department awards for excellence were given to the seniors who have demonstrated the highest skills and aptitude in the following disciplines.

       

Bible: Justin Brendel    

English: Alice Fugate  

Foreign Language: Emma Wright  

History: Caroline Holliday   

Mathematics: Sarah Marriott    

Music Performance: Dane Peterson

Dramatic Performance: Mary Hann Skelton

Science: Grace Miller

Visual Arts: Sophie Kemether  

 



2014 Senior Scholars  

Senior Scholars have achieved a 90 cumulative GPA or higher during their time at Whitefield Academy.



Stephen Bracher, Justin Brendel, Rebecca Carswell, Dannygail Dean, Iman Eaton, Alice Fugate, Frances Hamilton, Cara Grace Hildebrand, Hannah Hill, Caroline Holliday, JB Johnson, Katie Kassis, Sophie Kemether, Matthew Landry, David Lemasters, Kerry Anna Lemasters, Anna Long, Sarah Marriott, Ali Matthews, Grace Miller, Katie Mitcham, Mary Beth Newkirk, Micah Owens, Dane Peterson, Nick Russell, Peter Sengson, Elaine Sharitz, Annie Sickling, and Emma Wright.





PAGE Foundation STAR Student Award 

The student who has the highest score on one test date on the three-part SAT taken through the November test date

Carver-Wheatley Award 

The Carver-Wheatley Award is given to the winners in each division of the Carver-Wheatley Black History Month Essay Contest.

College and University Scholarships and Awards

The following students received recognition at the awards ceremony for the breadth of their academic scholarships to various institutions. Congratulations to all our seniors who together have earned over $6 million in scholarships and grants to institutions across the United States.

 


Alabama State University (Montogomery, AL)

Jiniah Bliss received a full academic scholarship worth over $69,000 over the course of her four years of study. 



Ohio State University (Columbus, OH)

Iman Eaton was selected as as a Class of 2018 Morrill Scholar based on strong academics and solid personal character. The scholarship covers full tuition scholarship valued at over $100,000 over four years.



Morehouse College (Atlanta, GA)

Austin Joseph received a full academic scholarship worth over $144,000 over the course of his four years of study. 



Haverford College (Haverford, PA)

Justin Brendel has been selected as a Haverford Magill-Rhoads Scholar, receiving a full grant valued at over $219,000 over four years. 



United States Nal Academy (Annapolis, MD)

Grace Miller was awarded a full scholarship to the United States Naval Academy valued at $425,000 over a four-year period.







Special Awards





The Senior Achievement Award – Iman Eaton


The Senior Achievement Award is given to the senior who has demonstrated exceptional accomplishment through initiative. 



Salutatorian – Alice Fugate    

The salutatorian award is presented ior with the second highest cumulative grade point average during all four years of high school. 



Alice has challenged herself in 11 Honors courses and 5 AP courses over the course of her high school career and is graduating with a GPA of 98.79.



Valedictorian  - Caroline Holliday       

The distinguished valedictorian award is presented to the senior with the highest cumulative grade point average during the four years of high school



Caroline has challenged herself in 11 Honors courses and 6 AP courses over the course of her high school career and is graduating with a 99.02 cumulative GPA.



The Ephesians Award - Mary Beth Newkirk

The Ephesians Award is presented to a student in each grade who is most enthusiastic about ongoing community service throughout the course of the school year. 



The Jabez Award - Nick Russell

This award recognizes a student who has shown extraordinary leadership in the Upper School, not only in the classroom, but also in extracurricular activities



The Headmaster’s Distinguished Scholar Award – Sarah Marriott

This award is given to the senior who has attained noteworthy distinction in academics, arts, athletics, and service. 



The Atlanta Journal-Constitution Cup – J.B. Johnson

This award recognizes the senior who has achieved all-around excellence and leadership in academics, athletics, the arts, and community activities.



The Charles L. Johnston Christian Leadership Award – Emma Wright

This award is presented to the senior who best lives out the Christian faith in relationship with his or her peers as well as within the adult community



The George Whitefield Award – Justin Brendel

This award is presented to the senior who best exemplifies the words of the mission statement: “A passion for learning, for others ahead of self, and for the living and active Jesus.”
