The Whitefield jazz band spent Easter weekend in the Golden Isles area of South Georgia, performing at several locations on St. Simon’s Island and nearby, including The Lodge, Magnolia Manor, and Ocean Forest Golf Club, an exclusive five-star golf resort on Sea Island. The band performed Big Band classics such as Chattanooga Choo Choo, Woodchopper’s Ball, Sing, Sing, Sing and In the Mood.

sophomore Ethan Powell serving as trumpeters for the church’s two Easter services. The afternoon featured the Whitefield Academy jazz band in concert in the fellowship hall

The trip marks the fifth year that the jazz band has visited the barrier islands; the trip has become an bienniel event. Students enjoy performing as well as visiting the beach, eating seafood and staying in the Sea Island cottage of Fine Arts Director Stacy Quiros.

“The venues where we perform look forward to this trip ,” said Quiros. “Both the residents and tourists on the islands always remark on the superior quality of our musicianship, as well as the kids themselves, who engage the audience and enjoy the fellowship of the listeners after performances.”

Members of the jazz band include seniors Alice Fugate, Jeremiah Cowan, Dane Peterson, Braelen Phillips, and Nick Russell, as well as Anna Kate Peterson (9th), Ethan Powell (9th), Felton Smith (10th), Brandon Morris (11th) and Bryce Belyeu (11th).
