Middle School Lacrosse Team Claims Two Wins
The Middle School lacrosse team experienced victory over the weekend. Faced with challenges, they responded by playing with heart, with an unselfish attitude, and earned a win against the Grizzlies in two games, winning 13-3, and 5-4! The team's effort and example that deserves recognition. Come out and watch the team at home this Saturday.
Inning Rally Sparks Big Win For Middle School Gold Baseball Team
The Middle School Gold baseball team scored 10 runs in the first inning and did not look back, beating Tucker Middle school 17-2. Whitefield had 12 hits, and seven walks with MJ McCurdy (6th) getting three hits, Russell Bell (7th) with three runs scored, and Luke McLemore (7th) with two hits. Great field play by Jackson Lewis (6th) and Cole Peterson (6th) plus strong pitching from West Petersen (7th) added tp the win. Congratulations for an overall strong performance by Whitefield Gold!
Whitefield Blue Baseball Team Wins Big Behind Strong Pitching
The Whitefield Blue Middle School baseball team scored first and never looked back against Druid Hills Middle School winning 13-2. The team was anchored by strong pitching in starter Casey Huffman (8th) and reliever "overnight sensation" Jake Lewis (8th). Carter and Jacob Pitts (8th) led the offensive with three hits each. Malcolm Griffin (8th) took advantage of his starting position and made the most of it with two hits and one walk. The defense played error-free baseball from start to finish.
Junior Varity Lacrosse Team Takes Down Creekview
The Whitefield JV lacrosse team extended its record to 4-0 on Friday night with an 8 – 6 win over Creekview High School in a very physical game. Jonathan Wood (9th) went 6 for 6 for the night with one assist. William Charles (10th) and Josh Turner (9th) each added a goal. On defense Brenner McCutcheon (9th), Carson Brown (9th), Connor Callan (9th), and Joseph Swartz (8th) all contributed to forming a WolfPack wall of defense. Bradley Washington (9th) and Wills McCutcheon (8th) shared goalie duties with each having seven saves apiece.
Varsity Girls Soccer Team Beats Christian Heritage
The varsity girls soccer team traveled to Dalton, Ga to play Christian Heritage in an Area match. The first half was mostly played at Christian Heritage's end of the field, and although the Lady WolfPack outshot them 10-1, the half ended in a scoreless tie. Whitefield had several opportunities to score on great shots by Kathryn Bracher (10th), Mary Kendrick (11th), Frances Hamilton (12th), Sophie Kemether (12th), and Kate MacPhail (11th), only to be turned away by the Heritage keeper.
As the cloudy morning gave way to a sunny afternoon, our play brightened as well. Whitefield continued our offensive pressure and Frances Hamilton (12th) converted on a free kick for a 1-0 lead at the 3:42 mark into the second half. At the 29:30 mark, Mary Kendrick (11th) scored when a shot by Sophie Kemether (12th) was mishandled by the Lions' goalie. The girls hung on for a 2-0 win in a key Area game.
Another strong defensive performance was given by senior Elaine Sharitz, junior Margaret Reed, senior Caitlin Kleefield and sophomore Mallory Fields. The girls will be back in action Thursday afternoon at 5 p.m. at The Walker School. Come out and support the Pack!
Varsity Boys Soccer Team Shuts Out Christian Heritage
The varsity boys soccer team delivered its first shut out of the season Saturday over Christian Heritage. Highlights included Berto Dryden's (12th) contribution to the defense and goals by Aaron Harges (9th), Chip Soud (9th), Jude Lewis (10th), and William Hellier (9th) who also scored on a penalty kick. Next week's schedule includes a JV match at home on Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m. against Walker.
