The Whitefield varsity track team was in Fairburn on Satu,rday, April 27 for the Class A sectional meet. The Class A public and private school sectionals were combined, and the meet turned into an eleven-hour marathon. Despite the interminable length of the meet, the teams performed well, advancing several members through to the state championship meets.



Juniors Everett Pollard and Austin Joseph punched their tickets to state where they will join Robby Keough (10th) and Holt Merkle (12th) who both qualified in the 1600m. Everett qualified in the high jump, going 5'6". Austin qualified in the triple jump with a new personal record of 40-1.75. Robby added the 800m to his dance card, winning his qualifying heat in 1:56.97



The girls team will have a strong presence in Albany and have a chance to snag a high placement in the meet. Morgan Landers (12th) returns to the state meet in the triple jump for the third straight year, qualifying with a 32-2.75. The 4x100m relay team of Alexis Allen (12th), Corey Johnson (9th), Morgan and Alice Fugate (11th) turned back another fierce challenge from the Our Lady of Mercy girls and will be the top seed at the state meet with a qualifying time of 50.00. The 4x400m relay team of sophomore Naomy Grand Pierre (who already qualified in the 1600m), Morgan, Corey, and Alice goes to state with a qualifying time of 4:16.59. Alice (12.98) and Corey (12.83, a new PR) both qualified in the 100m. Corey also goes through in the 200m with a qualifying time of 27.10.



The boys state championship meet starts this Thursday in Jefferson. The girls state championship meet is in Albany beginning May 9.
