The Whitefield cross country team recently competed in the Asics Invitational, held at the McIntosh Nature Preserve in Whitesburg. Cameron Thornton, senior, placed first in the competition and Robby Keough, freshman, placed ninth.
The varsity boys team, comprised of Cameron Thornton (15:50), Robby Keough (16:51), Holt Merkle (17:43), DK Langford (19:20), Jacob Fikse (19:32), Brent Hildebrand (19:34), and Tommy Keough (21:16), took home 14th place overall. Each of the varsity boys shaved between 10-30 seconds off his previous race time.
Whitney Merkle finished strong with a time of 23:29, while Alli McLemore improved her race time by 14 seconds to finish at 23:47.
In addition, veterans Taylor Tutt (19:54) and Stephen Bracher (21:37) led this year’s novice runners, JB Johnson (21:47), Justin Samples (23:36), Austin Hoover (24:54), and Brandon Morris (26:15), to capture 24th place. Special congratulations to freshman Austin Hoover who knocked two minutes off his last finish time!
