Sophomore Sage Blackwood, sophomore Terrence Goens, and senior Richard Sherrell, all members of the Whitefield Academy drumline led the opening day parade with Northside Youth Organization (NYO) this past Saturday. The parade is an annual event which starts the NYO baseball season. Varsity basketball cheerleaders Jiniah Bliss (11th) and Justine Connor (12th) also marched with the drumline and helped lead the parade which was made up of hundreds of 4-14 year old boys and girls signed up to play ball. Walking alongside the Whitefield students was Homer the Brave who greeted the crowd and the athletes.
"For the past few years, members of the Whitefield band have helped lead this annual parade and it's great fun," said Stacy Quiros, fine arts director. "Many Whitefield students have participated in NYO sports, and it is great to give back to the organization."
