After an exciting homecoming week, the WolfPack varsity football team defeated the Southwest Atlanta Christian Academy (SACA) Warriors in a resounding 22-0 victory. Whitefield played with emotion and composure all night, moving to 1-0 in region play. SACA, who only fielded 19 players, was outplayed on both sides of the ball by a well coached and prepared WolfPack team.
The game was started off by a great 28 yard kickoff return by Max Rieves who turned the ball over to the offense. The WolfPack scoring was led off by Ryan Jones (1 carry for 2 yards and a TD) who scored on a two-yard run to cap a long drive. The drive was highlighted by the running of Khalen Pinkett (13 carries for 69 yards) and Richard Sherrell (21 carries for 110 yards) who both ran well all night. The defense held SACA to a three and out and gave the ball back to the offense who drove back down the field and scored on a Max Kemether (9 of 17 for 61 yards and 2 TDs ) to John Alar (4 catches for 15 yards) TD pass. The final score came in the third quarter when Max threw a TD pass to Ryan Jones (2 catches for 14 yards) to seal the game.
The night belonged to the defense which held the Warriors scoreless and 75 yards of total offense. They also prevented the Warriors from completing a single pass all night. The defensive line played well all night and sacked the quarterback a number of times. The defense was led by the Marietta Daily Journal's Player of the Game, Lorenzo Carter (6 tackles, 2 assists, 2 sacks with multiple tackles for a loss). Other key defensive leaders were Max Rieves (4.5 tackles and 3 assists), Ryan Jones (4.5 tackles and 3 assists), and James Schultz (3.5 tackles and 3 assists).
During the halftime celebration, fans watched the entertaining performance of the WolfPack Marching Band, followed by the presentation of the homecoming court. Homecoming representatives included: Freshmen - Sydney Burke, Kate MacPhail; Sophomore - Alice Fugate, Frances Hamilton, and Kerry Anna LeMasters; Junior - Avery Evans, Caitlin Hesse, Mary Claire McClellan,and Kayla Reeder; Senior - Anna Kate Atkins, Hannah Rae Faulk, Tyler Harrison, Sophie Lee, and Fantasia Remonvil. Congratulations to Anna Kate Atkins who was crowned the 2011 Miss Whitefield. Anna Panu, Miss Whitefield 2010, joined Headmaster Dr. John Lindsell and Anna Kate's father, Bill Atkins, on the field to crown Anna Kate.
