As the school year comes quickly to an end, the excitement and action in and around athletics has not slowed down! Last week we had two teams still competing in the state playoffs. On Wednesday, our varsity boys soccer team competed in the semi-final round of the playoffs, winning 5-0 over Walker to advance to the state finals! The team will take on Wesleyan at 7:30 p.m. this Thursday at McEachern High School. I hope to see our whole community out this Thursday night to celebrate the tremendous accomplishments of this team and to cheer them on in the final game of the season. Be looking for information regarding sign ups for a ninth- through 12-grade student fan bus in tomorrow’s morning announcements.
Later in the week, 20 members of our varsity track and field team traveled to Berry College to compete in the state competition. Our girls finished 8th out of 29 teams with 25 points and our boys finished 6th overall out of 31 teams, also with 25 points. Senior Shelby Wingate finished off an incredible Whitefield career with three medals from the State Meet (2nd, 3rd, and 4th place finishes) and junior Devon Wade won two medals on the boy’s side where he set a personal record in the mile running a 4.21. Other top finishes included Louis Brogan also taking home a 2nd place finish in the state competition, jumping 6’4” in the high jump. The girl’s 4x100m relay team comprised of Mimi Little, Sky Johnson, Sarah Virginia Ryan, and Shelby Wingate finished in 4th place, breaking the school record with a time of 49.54! Congratulations to the entire track and field team for an incredible season and great showing at the state competition.
Last week we also finished off spring football with a spring scrimmage game against Strong Rock Christian Friday night. The WolfPack showed that the work put in the past two weeks was fruitful as the team had a strong showing. We are excited to watch as the team continues to work hard all summer to build on the foundation that was started this spring.
Go WolfPack!
