Two Whitefield Academy basketball players have been selected for all-region teams for the 2018-19 season. Senior Shelby Wingate was selected for the First Team All-Region Girls Basketball Team and junior AJ Hopkins was named to the First Team All-Region Boys Basketball Team.

Shelby averaged 19.5 points per game, 8.5 rebounds per game, and 5 steals per game.

“Shelby is a very good athlete,” said Varsity Girls Head Coach Timothy Unsicker. Shelby has played basketball for the WolfPack all four years of high school.

Coach Unsicker praised Shelby’s leadership skills both on and off the court and her commitment to improve and grow as an athlete. “The improvements she has made this year has not only helped her, but has helped the other girls improve this year also,” said Unsicker.

AJ averaged 20 points per game, 10 rebounds per game, and 2 blocks per game.

“AJ is an awesome young man who worked tremendously hard during the spring, summer, and preseason to have the type of season he's having this year,” said Varsity Boys Head Coach Courtney Brooks.

Coach Brooks went on to say, “AJ’s success confirms James 2:26. When you put your faith with your works and your works with your faith, then you can have the success you believe you can.”

Congratulations to both Shelby and AJ!
